            Kenny       Carl      Janis

Wayne's journey into music began in 1974 at the age of 13. He started learning guitar hoping to play in a rock band but as he got older he drifted towards Bluegrass attending meetings and participating in jam sessions at the Greater Oklahoma Bluegrass Music Society.

In 1984 Wayne attended a meeting of the Oklahoma City Traditional Music Association and was introduced to the wonders of traditional old time and Celtic music. He loved O.C.T.M.A. so much that he even served a term as president in1986-87.

Over the years Wayne has performed as a strolling fiddler and with a number of local Oklahoma old time or Celtic bands such as Reflections, The Prairie Land String Band, Calliope House, Suspicious Contra Band, and Dutch Creek.  While playing with these different bands Wayne had the opportunity to learn to play other instruments such as fiddle, claw hammer style 5-string banjo, 4-string Irish tenor banjo, mandolin, and mountain dulcimer. (He was the 1988 Texas state champion at the Lone Star State Dulcimer Festival in Glen Rose, TX) Pretty much the only thing you’ll hear him play these days though is fiddle. He says "It's nice not having to carry all that stuff around."

Wayne has also worked a bit in theater providing music for a Stage Center production of "Babe, the Sheep Pig", and the Stage Door Theatrical Company production of a 1920's version of "2 Gentlemen of Verona". He's even been in a few television commercials!

As most musicians, He has a day job which is at Oklahoma Honda-Suzuki.

He says the most important thing about his life other than his wife Brenda and the 5 kids he has been blessed with his relationship with Jesus Christ. He said, “I received the gift of eternal life March 14th 1996 and now have the complete confidence that when I die I will spend my eternity in Heaven (Playing jigs and reels of course) How about you? Do you have the confidence that when you die you will spend your eternity in heaven?”

Wayne has this to say about playing with From the Heartland:

“I’ve been in a lot of different bands and had some great times playing music but I have to say playing with these guys is the best so far. Talk about a talented bunch of musicians! There is a camaraderie I have not experienced in a long time. Everyone looks out for each other, and not only during practice or on stage. We are more than band mates, we are friends.”
